4 Qul: The Four Surahs of the Quran that Start with Qul
The Quran is the word of Allah, revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) through the angel Jibril (Gabriel). The Quran contains 114 chapters, or surahs, of varying lengths and themes. Surah al-Kafirun (The Disbelievers)
Surah al-Kafirun is the 109th chapter of the Quran, and it consists of six verses. It was revealed in Makkah, when the polytheists of Quraish offered to compromise with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) by worshipping his God for one year, if he would worship their gods for another year. Allah revealed this surah to reject their proposal and to declare the clear distinction between Islam and disbelief.
The surah begins with Allah commanding His Messenger (peace be upon him) to say to the disbelievers that he does not worship what they worship, nor do they worship what he worships. He then repeats this statement twice more, emphasizing that he will never worship what they worship, nor will they ever worship what he worships. He then concludes by saying that they have their own religion, and he has his own religion.
The surah teaches us that there is no compromise or negotiation when it comes to matters of faith and worship. Islam is the only true religion that Allah accepts from His servants, and He does not share His divinity or sovereignty with anyone or anything. The believers must adhere to Islam sincerely and exclusively, and avoid any association or resemblance with the disbelievers and their false beliefs.
